Overview: What Is The MitoPRO Series?

The MitoPRO Series is a lineup of red light therapy panels that utilize visible red and near-infrared light to improve your body’s mitochondrial function and cellular health. This can lead to many health benefits like anti-aging, hair growth, and more.

The MitoPRO Series consists of three different panels of varying sizes.

More on each in a bit…

Let’s first look at how the MitoPRO Series as a whole performs overall in terms of:

  • Power & Irradiance
  • EMF Levels

Power & Irradiance

Looking at the overall specifications, we can easily see that the MitoPRO devices were designed with power in mind. Each panel has an irradiance of 100+ mW/cm² six inches away and a lens beam angle of 60 degrees.

Irradiance is a measure of how much light energy from one object is hitting another. The higher the irradiance (within reason), the better and faster your results will be.

In this case, the MitoPRO devices emit 130+ mW/cm².

An irradiance of 50mW/cm² works for minor stimulation and healing. Higher irradiances are better for pain relief. Patients reported more significant pain relief at 150mW than at 60mW – all factors like treatment time held equal [1].

The industry gold standard for irradiance is 100mW/cm², so the MitoPRO Series passes this check.

What’s more, because all the LED lights on MitoPRO devices use a narrow beam angle of 60 degrees, you’re guaranteed to maximize the therapeutic benefits you get from your device.

A narrow beam angle prevents excess power loss because the light beam is more focused. The light will maintain its intensity over a longer distance than a wider beam angle of 90 degrees, for example. This is important for people who want to use RLT for full (or half) body treatments because the larger the area you want to treat, the further you’ll have to sit (or stand) back.

However, having a super narrow beam angle is also not ideal. A beam angle of 10 degrees, for example, can lead to localized heating of your skin, especially if all the light beams are concentrating on the same areas.

That’s why, at 60 degrees, the MitoPRO Series devices are perfect for those looking to safely get the most out of their RLT devices.

Beyond power, MitoPRO stands out because it has low EMF and is flicker-free.

Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Radiation

According to the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, EMFs are “possibly carcinogenic to humans” [2].

Now, it’s important to note that EMF studies are still preliminary, and EMFs have yet to be proven to cause cancer. However, this is something you should be aware of and trying to minimize exposure to.

For instance, you’d want to avoid using any red light therapy devices that incorporate Bluetooth/WiFi features. Connecting your device to an app on your phone might sound fantastic, but you’re exposing yourself to more EMF radiation.

Because MitoPRO devices only include the electrical components needed to operate the panel, you’re going to minimize that risk. And, at six inches away (the recommended distance), EMF meters detected no EMFs from any of the MitoPRO devices.

Anything that uses electricity will emit EMF radiation, but something like an x-ray machine will emit much more than your computer.

Our Personal Criteria: How Does The MitoPRO Stack Up?

When looking at red light therapy devices, we have our own list of criteria we look at when judging devices:

How Quiet Is The Device?

Because red light therapy devices can overheat, you want devices with built-in fans to dissipate the heat. All MitoPRO Series devices include whisper-quiet internal fans, so you don’t have to worry about annoying, loud fan noises.

How Easy Is It To Set Up?

It’s pretty straightforward to set up any of the MitoPRO Series devices. Each red light therapy device comes with everything you need, including an over-the-door hook, steel hanging cables, and an adjustable pulley system.

It’s easy enough for one person to set it up, but having a second person to help lift and attach the device to the door mount can make it easier. The MitoPRO 1500, for example, is around 30 lbs.

The adjustable pulley system makes it a breeze to adjust the height of your device. This is an excellent feature for people who share devices, so you can quickly raise or lower your device to fit different people’s heights. No need to remove and reinstall each time you want to change the device’s positioning.

And, for those looking to incorporate multiple devices into their setup, you can invest in a mobile stand for maximum flexibility and mobility.

How Reputable Is Mito Red Light, The Company Behind The Product?

At Therapeutic Beams, we like to assess a company not only on their products but also their customer support policies.

The recent popularity of red light therapy has led to many players in the industry. Some are reputable, some aren’t, and some will nickel-and-dime you the entire time.

So, before you purchase any light therapy device, you want to familiarize yourself with a company’s return policy (in case something does go wrong).

A 90-day money-back guarantee might sound great… until you read the fine print. A few companies will ask you to cover the return shipping cost (which can get expensive, especially if you order a larger device). Additionally, many of these companies can sneak in a 20-25% restocking fee, so you’re not actually getting a full refund.

A return policy that has the customer’s best interests at heart is super important for me. Whenever I’m shopping online, I always read the return policy before I buy anything. I’ve been burned too many times, especially from companies that offer returns but have a list of hidden fees in the fine print.

Fortunately, Mito Red Light does genuinely offer a no-hassle 60-day return policy. You can try out a device for 60 days, and if unsatisfied, you can return it for a full refund. No hidden restocking fees!

What Makes The MitoPRO Series Stand Out Among Competitors?

Now, let’s look at a few features that make the MitoPRO Series stand out among other popular competitors.

Scientifically Driven: The Most Bioactive Wavelengths (Patent-Pending) For The Best Results

MitoPRO is the first and only lineup of red light therapy devices to incorporate four of the most bio-active wavelengths into a single device. This patent-pending design offers two distinct wavelengths of red light (630nm/660nm) and two distinct wavelengths of near-infrared light (830nm/850nm).

Why does the wavelength of light matter?

Because the more readily our mitochondria in our cells absorb the light, the better and faster our results will be. Different wavelengths of light trigger different biochemical reactions.

Let’s look at red light for an example.

While anything between 620-750nm is considered red, science has shown that light with a wavelength of 630nm or 660nm produces the best results.

Most of the studies on RLT use 630±15nm or 660±15nm light. So while other wavelengths might work, these are the only wavelengths with scientific evidence backing them up.

What’s more, all MitoPRO red light therapy devices are built such that 25% of all LEDs are dedicated to each wavelength. This ensures even coverage and optimal treatment results.

With this powerful combination of wavelengths, you can rest assured you’re getting the most out of red light therapy.

Complete Flexibility: Choose Red Light, Near-Infrared Light, or Both Based On Your Treatment Goals

Unlike some other red light therapy devices, MitoPRO gives you complete flexibility over your treatment. You can use red light, near-infrared, or both at the same time!

Depending on your treatment goals and preferences, you may only want to use one type of light at a time. For instance, near-infrared light is best for pain relief because it can penetrate deeper into your tissues.

I know some people who swear by using red light to improve their eye health after a 2020 human study showed how RLT improved eye function in older individuals [3].

Protective eyewear is recommended when using near-infrared light. While there is a minimal risk (especially at these levels), long-term exposure to high levels of near-infrared light can potentially damage your eyes.

Regardless of which settings you end up using, you want to avoid staring directly into the LED lights. They can be pretty bright, even if you close your eyes! Fortunately, blackout goggles are included with every MitoPRO device, so you don’t need to worry about getting them yourself.

Easy To Use: Integrated Digital Control Panel For Intuitive Treatments

The MitoPRO Series offers easy and intuitive treatments at the press of a button. The control panel on the side of each device is easy-to-use and user-friendly. No random button pressing to figure out how to turn on or use the device.

Once you turn on your device, the built-in timer starts at 0:00, and you can adjust your treatment time by pressing the ‘Time’ button.

Finger pressing "ok" on the MitoPRO control panel

While 10-15 minutes is recommended, you can choose treatment times starting from 1 minute. This makes it super easy to add red light therapy into your daily routine.

Simple Customization: Modular Design For Complete Control Over Your Setup

Another feature that makes the MitoPRO Series stand out from other red light therapy systems is its modular designYou can easily connect your panels together for more coverage.

For example, if you want “taller” coverage, you can add a second panel above your current device. Or, if you want broader coverage, you can add a second panel to the right (or left) of your current device.

When set up correctly, the panels will physically and electronically connect, so your whole setup will work from a single control panel.

If you already know you want greater coverage, you might opt for a larger RLT system. For example, getting a MitoPRO 750 and MitoPRO 1500 will offer coverage up to 5’5″ in height and 10″ in width. You also can get up to a 10% discount if you purchase multiple panels.

Alternatively, if you start off with one panel and then realize you want more, it’s super easy to add another panel! There’s no need to stress over which panel you should get now when you can always adjust your setup in the future.

For those that enjoy more customizable treatments, check out the MitoADAPT Series, a newer lineup of red light therapy devices that give you ELEVEN different treatment options.

Overall Review

Overall, the MitoPRO Series offers some of the best red light therapy devices currently available.

We recommend that if you’re new to the incredible benefits of red light therapy, you should start with the MitoPRO 750, the more budget-friendly option. Then, upgrade to the MitoPRO 1500 if you want even faster and more powerful effects.

Based on the feedback we’ve collected, MitoPRO Series users consistently reported impressive, visible results within a few weeks of using their red light therapy panel. Commonly experienced benefits include:

  • More vibrant, radiant skin
  • Fewer wrinkles and fine lines
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Faster recovery after workouts
  • Mild to moderate pain relief

We’re also huge fans of their generous return policy: you get 60 days to try out your device risk-free. What’s more, you don’t have to pay any restocking fees if you decide to return it. Assuming you’ve done your research, you know how rare (and incredible) this is!

Zero restocking fees are, surprisingly, not the norm in this industry – many companies will charge you anywhere from 15-25% of your purchase price, so you only get part of your money back. Not so risk-free after all.

  1. I have melasma, is the RLT exacerbates my hyperpigmentation? I would like to purchase one but I’m afraid if the adverse effect.
    Appreciate your advice.

    Reply
    • Hi Tess, red light therapy generally shouldn’t exacerbate your hyperpigmentation. In fact, red light (633 nm and 830 nm) may be effective in treating melasma (see the full research study here). That said, there have been studies indicating that near-infrared light (more specifically, 830 nm and 850 nm) may lead to hyperpigmentation in some, as it can stimulate melanocyte production. As a result, we generally recommend sticking to red light with wavelengths in the mid-600 nm range or turning off the near-infrared light function on the MitoPRO. Although, it might be best to speak to a healthcare professional about this because there may be other factors to consider, e.g. other treatments you’re currently undergoing.

    • Hi Erinn, there’s currently limited scientific evidence to support the claim that red light therapy directly supports detoxification. That said, some studies have suggested that red light therapy can help reduce inflammation and improve circulation, which could potentially support the body’s natural detoxification processes.
