What To Consider Before Purchasing A LED Face Mask?
When trying to purchase a LED mask, there are several factors that you should consider when doing your research.
As a starting point, here are seven things I always take into account before purchasing a LED mask:
Intended Use Case
What are you looking to gain out of this light therapy treatment?
The benefits and results you see from light therapy will depend on the wavelengths used so you want to be sure you’re using the optimal wavelengths.
For instance, red light therapy is generally recommended for those looking to reduce signs of aging (e.g. wrinkles and fine lines). Red light therapy can also be used to help manage symptoms of a variety of skin conditions like psoriasis and rosacea [1].
On the other hand, blue light therapy is typically better for those looking to treat acne [2].
Your Habits & Personality
Are you the type of person to consistently follow a routine?
When it comes to any sort of at-home red light therapy treatment, you will not see results happen overnight. You’ll need to consistently use light therapy to see lasting results.
It also takes about 20 minutes for each treatment session, which can be tedious if you’re not used to it.
So, if you know you’d struggle adding this to your daily skincare routine, a LED face mask might not be the best choice for you.
Face & Neck Coverage
Do you want a light therapy face mask that also covers your neck?
If you’re looking to use a red LED mask primarily for its anti-aging benefits, you may want to consider getting a device that comes with an attachable neck cover.
After all, your neck’s appearance can be an easy way for people to tell how old you are, and too many LED face masks out there only cover your face, leaving your neck untreated and ignored.
Number & Type Of LED Lights
Different LED face masks have different specifications when it comes to the number and type of LED lights they contain.
Ideally, you want a mask that has a high number of LED lights and one that uses a mix of red and near-infrared lights. Red lights penetrate more superficially, while near-infrared lights can penetrate skin cells more deeply, so a combination of the two types of light can be very effective.
You’ll want to avoid the “7-in-1” light therapy masks that have seven different color settings. While having so many color options might sound fantastic, having that many choices can actually hurt you in the long run.
Because the key to successful facial rejuvenation is consistency, you need to make sure you’re wearing your mask as directed. Often, that means wearing your LED mask for 20 minutes three times per week for at least four weeks.
So, if you want to use red, blue, and green light on your “7-in-1” LED mask, you’ll essentially have to wear your mask for 60 minutes three times a week for four weeks.
Doesn’t that sound like a hassle?
I know I’d struggle following that routine, which means I probably wouldn’t see any lasting results either (and all my skin concerns would go unresolved).
That’s why I recommend looking for a LED mask that offers a “real” combination treatment, in that you can use multiple types of light therapy at the same time.
Irradiance / Power
Red LED face masks aren’t as potent as other red light therapy devices (e.g. panels or beds), as they typically contain significantly fewer LEDs (given the smaller surface area) and tend to have a lower irradiance.
That said, because LED face masks provide more targeted treatment, the LEDs of the face mask are much closer to your skin, so the lower irradiance shouldn’t be too big of an issue.
But, if you know you’d want to use red light therapy for more than just your face and neck, you may want to opt for a larger, more powerful device like a red light therapy panel that’s better suited for full-body treatments.
Ease Of Use
Because the key to seeing results from red light therapy is consistency, you want to make sure the LED mask is easy to use and comfortable to wear for the recommended amount of time.
Some face masks come with a head strap to keep them in place, while others are designed to be held in place by hand.
Budget
There are a ton of LED face masks available out there. Some LED face masks can cost you upwards of $500 or more, which might be a lot especially if you’re still trying to see if red light therapy is for you.
So, if you’re a bit anxious about spending that much upfront on a LED mask, don’t fret – there are plenty of more wallet-friendly options that exist.
What Is The Bestqool LED Face Mask?
The Bestqool LED Face Mask is a light therapy device that helps improve your skin complexion and tone without breaking the bank. It works by using combination light therapy to reduce wrinkles, age spots, acne, and more, while also reducing skin inflammation and redness.
Specifically, the Bestqool LED Face Mask harnesses the power of 108 LED lights that emit different wavelengths of red light (660nm), near-infrared light (850nm), and blue light (470nm). This combination therapy allows you to customize your treatment needs based on your specific use case.
For instance, if acne is one of your concerns, you can turn on the blue light function of the LED mask. Otherwise, you can turn off the blue LEDs and simply use the LED mask for its red and near-infrared wavelengths of light.
Reviewing The Bestqool LED Face Mask: Pros & Cons
After testing the Bestqool LED Face Mask for a couple of weeks, there were some things I liked and some things that I wasn’t the biggest fan of.
- True combination light therapy that allows you to use red light, near-infrared light, and blue light all at the same time to address any skin concern
- Affordable option compared to other competitors in the market
- Comes with a built-in timer, neck cover, and eye protection
- No option to select a single type of light
- Battery indicator may not be the most reliable
- Mask design may not result in the most comfortable wearing experience
What I Liked
The Bestqool LED Face Mask is one of the few masks that I’ve seen that’s a real “3-in-1” treatment. You can shine concentrated wavelengths of red, near-infrared, and blue light on your face all simultaneously (or just red and near-infrared light if you don’t want blue light). This drastically cuts down on treatment time and increases the benefits you get out of a single treatment.
The LED mask also comes with built-in goggles, so you can rest assured that your eyes are protected against any blue light.
Plus, the device is easy to use. Simply place it over your face for 20 minutes a day and watch as your complexion begins to improve in just weeks! I found myself wearing the LED face mask while doing chores – so it didn’t detract from my day-to-day at all, making it an easy add to my personal care routine.
Another cool feature of Bestqool’s red light therapy mask is the attached neck cover, so you won’t have to worry about your neck feeling left out. This was a huge benefit for me, as many other companies charge extra for the neck piece.
What I Didn’t Like
Now, there were two things that I wasn’t the biggest fan of: 1) the battery indicator and 2) the mask design.
The Battery Indicator
When I tried this LED face mask, I found the battery indicator a bit difficult to read. While there are four bars to indicate how much charge I have left, they’re not super accurate (or at least I’ve found the last bar to last much shorter than the other bars).
But, since I know each full charge lasts around ten sessions, I charge the battery every 3 weeks on a routine schedule (and added it to my phone’s calendar for easy reminders) to ensure the LED face mask doesn’t run out of battery mid-treatment.
That said, this does add some extra work to your plate – so it might not be for everyone.
The Mask Design
Because of the built-in eye protection and curve of the mask, I could clearly tell it was designed for those with “standard” head sizes. As a result, if you have a “larger” head, I can imagine this LED face mask being a bit tight and uncomfortable.
The mask is also a bit heavy, so it can sometimes feel like it’s being pulled down if you’re standing or sitting upright. Plus, the built-in googles can sometimes dig into your face, leaving some red indentation around the eyes. This can be uncomfortable for some, so I’d recommend laying down while using this red light therapy mask if you find yourself bothered by the way the LED mask sits on your face.
If comfort is a priority for you, I’d recommend spending a bit more and going with a LED mask that’s built out of flexible silicone for a more customizable fit.

Bestqool LED Face Mask Alternatives
If you’re unsure about Bestqool’s LED face mask or are looking for a more high-end device, there are alternatives out there. The Bestqool LED Face Mask is certainly a great budget option but by no means the only red light therapy face mask around.
The CurrentBody LED Face Mask is another great option for those looking to up their skincare game. While this LED mask only offers two types of light (red and near-infrared light), these wavelengths do have more scientific studies done on them.
For instance, one clinical study found that 633nm and 830nm wavelengths (the same ones included in the CurrentBody LED Face Mask) led to a significant increase in collagen and elastin production in patients. These patients also saw up to a 36% reduction in wrinkles and up to a 19% increase in skin elasticity [4]!
Another study concluded that “using a 633nm LED may prove useful for the prevention and treatment of skin aging and photodamage-induced aging” [5].
Plus, because the CurrentBody LED Face Mask is built with a patented flexible silicone, it ensures that light penetrates every area of your face while ensuring maximal comfort for all head “sizes”.

Overall Review
After weeks of extensive testing, I feel that the Bestqool LED Face Mask is a great option for those looking for an affordable facial skin care mask. With its combination of quality features and lower price point, it provides great value-for-money and is best for those on a budget.
That said, each LED mask on the market has its own pros and cons, so it really comes down to what you value most. If budget is your primary concern, you may want to consider the Bestqool LED Face Mask. Otherwise, you may find the other LED face masks on the market more useful for your needs – especially if comfort is one of your top priorities.
Regardless of which of these LED face masks you end up picking, you should make sure you’re following the user manual provided with the device. You’ll need to follow a consistent treatment schedule in order to see long lasting, noticeable results.
